The International Latino Film Festival(ILFF) Wraps Up 2006 10th Edition with 17 Days, Screenings, and Gala Events Throughout Nine Cities in the San Francisco Bay Area

San Francisco, CA – December 1, 2006 – The International Latino Film Festival— San Francisco Bay Area, one of the largest and most prestigious international organizations of its kind, wrapped its 10th anniversary celebration and 2006 festival edition on Sunday, November 19th concluding 17 days of film screenings and gala events.

From opening night at the legendary Castro Theatre, to the first-ever Festival edition in Redwood City, San Bruno, and Oakland, to the unforgettable closing night at CineArts, Sanatana Row in San Jose where theater seats were filled and fans were elated.

This year’s Mocte de Oro Award, was presented to the acclaimed and prolific Mexican actor, Damián Alcázar, of Un Mundo Maravilloso/ A Wonderful World by internationally renowned director, Moctesuma Esparza.

The Festival’s 10th ILFF Official Competition winner was Un Franco, 14 Pesetas, the debut work by Director/Writer/Actor Carlos Iglesias of Spain. Un Franco, 14 Pesetas is humorous and tender story based on the Iglesias family‘s emigration to Switzerland when Carlos was a young boy.

The 10th ILFF Audience Award this year was a tie between O Casamento de Romeo y Julieta / Romeo and Juliet Get Married (dir. Bruno Barreto, Brazil) and East Side Story (dir. Carlos Portugal, USA). Romantic screwball comedy, “O Casamento”, retells the Bard’s tragic love story with twists, turns and lots of sports fanaticism- Brazilian-style. In his debut film, East Side Story, Carlos Portugal takes on culture clashes, sexuality and gentrification in East L.A to shake up this hilarious yet heartfelt romantic drama.

ILFF is also pleased to announce the 10th ILFF Jury Award Recipients presented at the closing night festivities on November 19, 2006 before the screening of Jose “Pepe” Bojorquez’s astonishing mystical fable ‘Mar de sueños/ Sea of Dreams (Mexico, USA) at CineArts, Santana Row, San Jose. From documentaries covering the issues surrounding Latino experience in the US to films that represent the Jewish experience in the Hispanic world to the Women in Film series, programs devoted to LTGB, music and human rights, the programs presented by the ILFF are a valuable cultural resource for the Bay Area community.

In 2005 the Festival hosted a tribute to actor John Leguizamo and November 4th was declared ‘International Latino Film Festival Day’ by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

The Festival’s Youth in Video Program, which inspires and teaches high school students, including minorities, the art of filmmaking, has produced over 25 films over the past nine years including the award winning short film, “Silent Shadows” which was acquired by HBO and the documentary “Chavez 101” that received the Golden Gate Award at the SFIFF. As part of the Tenth Anniversary Festival in 2006, the ILFF will present the First Youth in Video Festival, showcasing the best works the students have produced since the program’s inception.

The International Latino Film Festival~ San Francisco Bay Area Announces Film Line-up for the South Bay Festival Edition as it Celebrates Ten Years of Independent Latino Films from Latin America, Spain and Latinos in the US

SAN JOSE, CA – (October 12, 2006) The 10th International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area (ILFF) is pleased to announce the showcasing of over 23 films November 9-19th during its South Bay Festival Edition which includes three venues in San Jose CineArts at Santana Row, MACLA, Mexican Heritage Plaza and San Jose State University as well as Redwood City and San Bruno.

This year, the ILFF is proud to screen a total of 85 films at seventeen venues November 3 -19th. Spanning nine Bay Area cities that include San Francisco, San Rafael, Mill Valley, Larkspur. Oakland and Berkeley, fans will enjoy screenings for the first time at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, the new Century Theater in Redwood City and at Skyline College in San Bruno.

The International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area was created to give voice to Latino cultural - expression through the powerful medium of film. The ILFF began as a grassroots organization ten years ago, presenting just 10 films at a single venue. The Festival showcases the best in new international Latino cinema, encourages emerging talent and pays tribute to celebrated Latino actors, directors and producers. This year, the ILFF is proud to screen a total of 85 films at seventeen venues from November 3 to 19. Spanning nine Bay Area cities that include San Francisco, San Rafael, Mill Valley, Larkspur and Berkeley, fans will enjoy screenings for the first time at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, the new Century Theater in Redwood City and at Skyline College in San Bruno.

The International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area was created to give voice to Latino cultural expression through the powerful medium of film. The ILFF began as a grassroots organization ten years ago, presenting just 10 films at a single venue. The Festival showcases the best in new international Latino cinema, applauds emerging talent and pays tribute to celebrated Latino actors, directors and producers. From documentaries covering the issues surrounding Latino experience in the US to films that represent the Jewish experience in the Hispanic world to the Women in Film series, programs devoted to LTGB, music and human rights, the programs presented by the ILFF are a valuable cultural resource for the Bay Area community.

In 2005 the Festival hosted a tribute to actor John Leguizamo and November 4th was declared ‘International Latino Film Festival Day’ by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

The Festival’s Youth in Video Program, which inspires and teaches high school students, including minorities, the art of filmmaking, has produced over 25 films over the past nine years including the award winning short film, “Silent Shadows” which was acquired by HBO and the documentary “Chavez 101” that received the Golden Gate Award at the SFIFF. As part of the Tenth Anniversary Festival in 2006, the ILFF will present the First Youth in Video Festival, showcasing the best works the students have produced since the program’s inception.

THE INTERNATIONAL LATINO FILM FESTIVAL – SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA CELEBRATES IT’S 10th ANNIVERSARY OF PROMOTING LATINO FILMAKING IN THE U.S AND ABROAD

Festival kick’s off November 3 – 19th at the Castro Theatre with over 80 films at seventeen venues

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – (September 18, 2006) Inviting one and all to celebrate our 10th anniversary edition presented by Subaru of America, Inc., the International Latino Film Festival unveiled plans for celebrating 10 years of Latino films, pride and talent with commemorative events, series and special programs throughout the sixteen day festival. This year, the ILFF is proud to screen a total of 84 films at seventeen venues from November 3 to 19. Spanning nine Bay Area cities that include San Francisco, San Rafael, Mill Valley, Larkspur and Berkeley, fans will enjoy screenings for the first time at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, the new Century Theater in Redwood City and at Skyline College in San Bruno. The Opening Night Gala will be hosted at the Castro Theatre with a `Málaga In San Francisco', followed by an elegant party at historic Fort Mason- Feliz Cumpleaños!

The International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area was created to give voice to Latino cultural expression through the powerful medium of film. The ILFF began as a grassroots organization ten years ago, presenting just 10 films at a single venue. The Festival showcases the best in new international Latino cinema, applauds emerging talent and pays tribute to celebrated Latino actors, directors and producers. From documentaries covering the issues surrounding Latino experience in the US to films that represent the Jewish experience in the Hispanic world to the Women in Film series, programs devoted to LTGB, music and human rights, the programs presented by the ILFF are a valuable cultural resource for the Bay Area community.

In 2005 the Festival hosted a tribute to actor John Leguizamo and November 4th was declared ‘International Latino Film Festival Day’ by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

The Festival’s Youth in Video Program, which inspires and teaches high school students, including minorities, the art of filmmaking, has produced over 25 films over the past nine years including the award winning short film, “Silent Shadows” which was acquired by HBO and the documentary “Chavez 101” that received the Golden Gate Award at the SFIFF. As part of the Tenth Anniversary Festival in 2006, the ILFF will present the First Youth in Video Festival, showcasing the best works the students have produced since the program’s inception.

Subaru expands sponsorship to include Youth in Video Program

San Francisco, Sept. 13, 2006– Subaru of America Inc. today announced that it will return as the Presenting and Official Automotive Sponsor of the 10th International Latino Film Festival (ILFF) San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to providing funds and other support to the organization year-round, Subaru has expanded its support to include the Youth in Video Program that is designed to inspire and teach the art of filmmaking to youth from minority and undeserved communities.

The 10th International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area runs November 3 -19 with over 70 screenings at movie theaters, community venues and university campuses throughout the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

“We are so pleased to have Subaru back this year and extend our partnership to include the Youth Video Program,” said Sylvia Perel founder and director of the International Latino Film Festival. “Over 20 students from diverse backgrounds in Marin, Contra Costa, Alameda and San Francisco Counties came together to produce two original short films for Subaru.”

Students shot, edited and created original music for the Subaru trailers which will be screened throughout the 2006 ILFF Festival venues to promote the 2007 Subaru Tribeca. Subaru will also have a complete star cast of products on display at the Festival.

A sneak preview of the Subaru trailers and the behind the scenes footage of the making of them will be screened at the Pier 39 Theater during the Subaru sponsored “Viva Las Americas” event celebration scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2006. The screenings are free and open to the public. These trailers will roll before each screening over the course of the three-week film festival, as well as during the 2007 festival year.
